52 Hz
Many people face loneliness, but they don’t completely realize the discomfort caused by this feeling. Lonely people feel a lack of communication and understanding, no matter how many social contacts they have. Loneliness is hard to measure, though there is a lot of research related to the negative impact of this feeling on physical and mental health.
I often face this discomfort when left alone with my thoughts. Loneliness catches me by surprise at home and creates existential problems – apathy, laziness, and powerlessness. Time becomes undefined. It hangs so heavy but flies so quickly. Each such period of time is like Groundhog Day. I’m home, in my place of power, but feel like I’m not here, and in these moments I don’t belong to myself. I feel like the loneliest whale in the world which sings at a frequency of 52 Hertz, while all the other whales sing at different ones. This feeling prompted me to capture my state of mind, and it resulted in a series of self-portraits.
