Electronic Belarusians
My family has never been a musical family and the love for music was cultivated exclusively by itself starting from the high school. In high school, I firstly became acquainted with the electronic music and with the programs on the computer that were used to write such music. I was amazed that such a thing is even possible and that I can compose something by myself.
Electronic music has been with me side by side since then. I finally secured my nickname “Kosmonavt” in 2012 and began to release music consciously. I met other electronic musicians, promoters, sound engineers. The electronic movement in Minsk is small, local, and “lamp”. There are a lot of talented people, but they are not very famous. Initially, I thought that by taking on such a project, I would be able to show and introduce these people through photography. However, everything turned out to be more interesting and deep.
I was in a creative crisis for about a year and a half, and all this time I did not have the opportunity to express myself through creativity. I found a salvation in analog photography. I took a topic for this project that is so close to me, in order to get a charge of inspiration, to get to know the people with a common creative passion, to get out of my comfort zone. The exchange of experience, impressions, stories behind the scenes of electronic musicians and DJs have become the main diamond of this project.
Unexpectedly for myself, I managed to combine two important hobbies of mine in one place, in one project. It became so interesting to explore myself and my love of electronic music through other people. The result of this adventure is a collection of black-and-white portraits of people who make electronic music in this city.
